    Description

This three piece set is sized extra large (Bust 48", Waist 46".) This is a new set and has never been worn.  It consists of a skirt, guimpe (blouse), and tea bodice (jacket). Great starter set, a real wardrobe starter. Easy to add new pieces, by using basic shades of navy blue and green.  All of the pieces can be mixed and matched using other tops, skirts and accessories.
The skirt is made of  cotton blend broadcloth in bright navy blue. It is
made with a double opening, the waistband is made in two sections, front and back.  The side openings can be left open and used with a period "pocket" or snaps or hooks and eyes can be added to keep them closed. It fastens inside at the front  side waist using two antique shell buttons and inside button holes. The buttons can easy be moved to accommodate changes in waist size. The waist band measures 47". The skirt is 41" long with a simple 3" wide  turned hem. The hem circumference is 260" around., full enough for a 4-6 bone hoop skirt. Machine wash cold and hang dry.
Tea bodices were worn to "take tea" which often meant an afternoon of visiting. The bodices were meant to "be seen" and thus were fancier than day dresses.  The bodice is fitted and falls to a point at the waistband of the skirt in front, the peplum back falls over the skirt in back with deep pleats .  The bodice has a simple jewel neckline and full, pagoda sleeves.  The jacket is made of navy blue figured with green leaves. It is a "silk-like" man-made material of unknown fiber.
It is lined with navy blue broadcloth. It buttons down the front and at the back pleats with antique brass buttons with rope like edge and a center sun-burst design.
The wide pagoda sleeves allow showy blouse, dress  or under sleeves to peek out.  The fabric is heavy enough to use of a jacket on cooler days and evenings. Dry clean only.
The guimpe body or blouse is made of pure white cotton or cotton blend fabric.
The garment basically fits only at the neck and wrists with full puffy sleeves and a keyhole opening with button closure at the back neck. The use of lots of fabric in the guimpe would be a sign of status. It is not made to be worn alone with a skirt, that was simply not done by "women of quality." Fashion forward younger women were beginning to wear skirts and guimpes  (and
    Garibaldi
blouses) with decorative Medici belts and waists alone. The guimpe
buttons at the neckline and wrists with vintage milky white glass buttons. with a decorative gold ring near the edge.
The raglan style sleeve it easy to wear under variety of tops. The fullness of the blouse can be laid into lovely pleats when worn under any lower cut bodice or waist.  The puffy, full sleeves make an attractive display in the place of undersleeves or sleeve
    jockeys
    .
I suggest it be cold water washed and hang dried. The glass buttons are easy to break in the drier.
