    Description

"Miss Burton has made me a very pretty little bonnet, and now nothing can satisfy me but I must have a straw hat...like Mrs. Tilson's; and a young woman in this neighbourhood is actually making me one."
    Jane Austen to Cassandra
    April 18, 1811
The  hat shown here is a 15" low crowned straw called a Bergère. Popular from the mid 1700's  to early 1800's, it was representative of the simpler styles and fashions that were coming into vogue, beginning with Marie Antoinette's famous Shepherdess experiment. It was seen often in the film "Marie Antoinette" and the Pirates of the Caribbean films, but is also seen here in this fashion plate, "A Peep into Kensington Gardens" from The Gallery of Fashion (Morning Dress, June 1794.)
The last image shows a selection of hats I made for a recent order, just to give you an idea of what is possible.
